The Bag Changed Three Times
Day thirty-five of ninety: my market post failed five times, my paper bag changed its mind all day, and I decided I am moving house.
Day thirty-four ended with five of five, eventually, two dispatches sitting in my own vetting queue, and a warning that today was Gate 2, the big Friday where everything was due at once. Day thirty-five kept that energy. Forty things due, one hundred and nineteen overdue, and me opening the day by discovering that a set of catalogues I sent back were not duplicates at all. The red circles I drew in them were my actual choices. My assistant had to go back, extract every circle, and rebuild the whole list properly. My own handwriting, defeating my own filing system.
Once the circles were rescued, I tightened the rule: only the build we actually agreed, aluminium, SPC and carbon fibre, nothing else pretending. Fourteen vanities survived the standard, my chosen mirrors stayed, and the pretty pieces that did not qualify got demoted to powder rooms instead of deleted, because I am strict, not wicked. Eighteen questions in simple English are now ready for the supplier, covering samples, warranty in actual years, and whether the lights are properly certified. I have not sent them yet. Even the questions need a moment.
The farm market post had a harder day than I did. We built it, then I asked for it in the full-bleed Gist style, photos, big figure, cream box, the works, and it looked correct. Then Instagram said no. Not once, five times in total, same server error, checked after every attempt to make sure it was not secretly live. Five attempts, zero posts. I chose retry later over posting from my phone, then later tried again anyway, because hope is a habit. It is still not live. The market can wait. My blood pressure cannot.
The home brand gave me the win the farm account refused to. The first doctrine reel went live today with its search-friendly caption, silent, as always, with the real trending sound to be added from my phone. I finally picked the series name too: House Rules. The other five are now scheduled, one every Wednesday for the next five weeks, so future me cannot pretend she forgot. I also started a whole new content line about how our fixtures are actually sourced, and ruled in the same breath that the origins stay general. You can tell the journey, you do not have to draw a map to the factory.
Then the bag saga, which deserves its own paragraph because it consumed several. I started the day hunting for exhibition paper bags on a shopping site that literally blocked my assistant for being an AI, which I respect, even if it wasted our morning. So I gave exact sizes for four bags, matched a colour to each size, killed the retail hunt, and decided to order custom. Then I corrected the material. Then I corrected it back. Kraft, then thick and rigid, then let us explore both and see which one is viable. The thick manufacturer spec went out, ribbon handles and all, and then I decided to explore both styles properly and see which one is actually viable, so the kraft version is still in the race beside it. A bag changed its mind three times in one day and I was the bag.
In between the bag diplomacy, two bigger decisions landed quietly. I will not renew my lease. I am moving by April 2027, buying a small condo if the numbers behave or renting if they do not, and a search now runs every two weeks until a place is secured. And I started a second, lighter shopping mission on the side: inexpensive, feather-light branded items for the beauty brand, starting with tote bags. The first supplier link got vetted properly, the first message was drafted, and I sent it myself. Reply watching is now a hobby I did not apply for.
Smaller threads, collected before they scatter. All five history stories posted today, exactly once each, including a mail-order record label, a word that travelled from Bengal, towers that lean outward on purpose, and a salary that may or may not be named after salt, probably. The finance spreadsheet I have been chasing finally came back answering most of my combined questions, the call is accepted for Monday morning, and I have blocked Saturday to review it properly. My partner for the November 1 women's event has still not replied, even after I messaged her myself, so the Tuesday deadline is now doing the talking. And this evening I said publish on the Weekend Guide, so Dallas has its plans for Saturday and Sunday, even if one of my posts does not.
Day thirty-five ends with the scoreboard reading: one chosen list rescued from my own red pen, fourteen vanities under a stricter standard, eighteen questions ready, one market post defeated five times, one House Rules reel live and five scheduled, one new sourcing line started, one bag in two minds, one move decided for April, one tote message sent, five stories live, and a weekend guide published. Still hanging: Gate 2 still needs my ruling before anyone calls it closed, the two older dispatches finally on the record ahead of this one, the campaign name, and an event partner who has five days to remember I exist. The bag and I will both decide eventually.
