The Attachment That Wasn't

Day nineteen of ninety: the signed contract signed nothing, the money arrived without permission, and the machine posted behind my back.

Yesterday's entry is on the record now. The one with the buried card and the three-million gap. Today, a thread I had marked DONE stood up and announced it was never a thread at all, the ledger filled with money I did not chase, and the theme of the day became paperwork that lies.

All week I believed the influencer's signed contract was closed. Her email said signed contract attached, I wrote it down, I moved on. This morning we opened the attachment in front of everybody. My people, there was no attachment. The email said signed. The email carried nothing. So the thread that was never born is born again: my operations chief is sending a fresh contract with a new start date, the timeline call on the nineteenth stands, and at least the products have landed. In this life, have products.

That same call kept giving. Bundle reform got its verdict: percentage caps, full testing tomorrow, social launch after. Holiday timeline set: prices locked on the twenty-third, offer confirmed on the thirtieth. The founder series launches the twelfth with ten-plus weeks of footage; my homework is to upload the videos and share the media plan. Somebody asked whether a first-timer discount stacks with a rewards program. There is no rewards program. Two honest notes, no sugar: one hire still growing into her role like a shoe two sizes big, one coordinator improving but not there yet. And the refund got its verdict in four words. My reply at eleven forty-six: run it through the COO. The eighteen-thousand-four-hundred claim still reconciles first, but the heaviest line on my list changed owners. My shoulders said thank you.

From money going out to money walking in: the money desk had its best day in weeks and did nothing to earn it. Three distributor credits landed across the day, roughly five point four million naira in total, and the balance is whole again. Nobody negotiated. Nobody chased. People just paid. Money that walks in by itself is the best kind of money. The building side kept its own quiet rhythm too: foundation inspection passed, lender paperwork closed overnight.

Back on my screen, the content machine behaved itself for once. Five story cards, one per account, each verified live exactly once, no duplicates, no drama. I killed a wine-colored accent with four words: the brand's color isn't wine. Somebody wanted wine. I said no. The six-slide carousel published at twelve forty-four, verified exactly once, and silent, because the posting tool cannot do music. The phone will sing later. Then the eleven fixed design templates uploaded with blank names that nobody can rename through the connection, so the official instruction is now: download it yourself and drop it in. Like pounding yam. Automation has its limits.

Money wants to keep coming in: the grants radar found two fits, a Lagos pitch with a one-million-naira prize and a ten-thousand-dollar grant that covers Dallas. Somebody wants to give me money. I am listening. And the to-do dashboard, which had been resurrecting completed tasks like a Nollywood ghost, got exorcised and dropped to a sane number. I counted it myself.

Still hanging, because the reader keeps score: the ghost email, the hard call, my own photos five days late, the adviser's homework three days overdue, the voice note and drawings I still owe, the directorship papers, the unsigned contract (we know why now), the retail manifests, the sales sheet that missed four o'clock, the app review, two unconfirmed check-ins, ten days on the seller identity, the unprocessed badge fee, and the grant deadlines keeping their own calendar.

Day nineteen ends with the scoreboard reading: one phantom signature, one four-word delegation, five point four million that walked in by itself, five stories posted once each, one doctrine post, one silent carousel, eleven templates named nothing, two grant fits, one dashboard exorcised, one funeral rescheduled to mid-November, and twelve threads still hanging. Day nineteen of ninety.
